Avi Schmidt


Avi is a USATT-certified regional coach.
Avi grew up in Israel and started playing table tennis at the age of seven.   He became a member of the Israel National Junior team at the age of 15.  Avi won third place at the Israeli Nationals twice as a junior player and once as an adult. 
In the United States, Avi was the over 40 National Champion in 2000 and 2001.  He also won first place in the over 50 category, in both the Nationals and the US Opens for the singles and doubles event.  In 2001, Avi represented the United States in the Macabi Games. 
Passionate about teaching the sport of tablet tennis, Avi starting coaching in Israel when he was 21.  In the United States, Avi coached at the Concord Table Tennis Club in the 1990s, and was the head coach at the Alameda Table Tennis Club from 2008 to 2012. His students won numerous titles at the US Nationals and US Open. Avi also coached at World Champion Table Tennis Academy from 2016 and 2019, where he was mentored as a coach by Li Zhengshi, a table tennis world champion, who is now retired. 
Avi is excited to join the coaching team at 888 TTC to teach the skills and art of table tennis to our developing athletes and to our community.
